My heart is broken for your family but I know that you are no longer in pain and at peace.

We have been coming to Fred's since my son (Marcus) was a small child. It was hard to remember his name, Fred decided that he was going to remember his name (which is actually Marquis but nickname is Marcus). If Fred could not remember his name, he said he would give my son cake. Well, Fred associated my son's name with the car Grand Marquis - he remembered after that but still called him Marcus and still gave him cake. I am still known as "Marcus' mom" which I love.

In the fall of 1982 you told my mother that I should be a teacher but,I had different plans for my life. I earned a degree in technology from Grambling State University and went on to become a officer in the Unted States Coast Guard.

But I never forgot what you told my mother and as I traveled and learned more about my family, I learned that I come from a family of teachers. Your insight was critical to me believing that I was good enough to be a teacher like you. I even remember that you had to give me paddling in Headstart because I was doing something mischevious or bad in class. God gave you a gift to see potential in children that some overlooked. I thank God that you saw my potential over 35 yrs ago.

I eventually decided to move back home and become a teacher after my time in the Coast Guard. Again, your words to my mother were always in the back of my mind and they inspired and motivated me to strive and achieve in life. I want to thank you for telling my mother so many years ago what you saw in me.

You made difference in my life. I'm glad I got chance to thank you a few yeas ago when I was in DFW one day. It made me so happy to be able to thank you face to face and shake you hand. I was blessed that day again. :)

Another young man you inspired and I were planning on seeing you a few months ago, but a schedule change kept us from coming by the restaurant. I truly regret that we did not get my to see you. We will see you on the other side.

To the Family of Leon Brown: Leon Brown was an inspiration to all the patients and staff at Parkland Transplant Program. Leon and Queenie are true mentors of Christianity. They welcomed me to their church and equipped me with sermons from their Pastor an Guest Pastors. The sermons still minister to me. It has been an investment that will never be forgotten.

I can forget the meals and service at Fred's Barbecue I enjoyed after work on my way home after a long busy day.

I am so sorry to hear about Leon. He was a wonderful man. My Dad, daughter and I had to go to eat at Fred's At least once a week. My dad loved Seeing Leon. Leon always put a big smile on my Dads face.. I sure my dad has a smile on his face seeing Leon again even in Heaven. He will be missed. Prayers for the family.

I remember on one of my many trips to Freds, my wife and I had been out most of the day and stopped by on the way home. While we were eating, a gospel song (what else) came on the radio and Brother Leon started singing along with it. He had an amazing voice and he so loved the Lord. There is no doubt as to where he is now. Our prayers are to Queenie and the family for their sorrow at this time of grief.
