the Old Goat was very special to me. I'm sorry we lost touch after he left the Company. He was more of a friend than a boss. I have dozens of Bob V. stories but no one around me to share them with. He was always ready to help anyone, even folks he didn't care for. He didn't like bullies or people that tried to take advantage of others. The love he had for his family was a reflection of how he was raised. Until I had a grandson of my own, I could never understand the pride and love he had for Christopher. Well, I guess I better stop. I could go on for days. Remember Shirley, Bob's not in that box. A box has never been built that could hold him. He's still out running around, watching over those he loved. Thanks and we're thinking about you. RE

Yes, Bob V was a big man. He had to be to carry around such a big heart full of love for his "Sweet Pea" (Shirley) and all of his friends and family. He was my husband's best friend and from the first night that I met him I knew he was special. I especially remember the trips that Jim and I shared with Bob and Shirley and the football games we shared at their home. You could not be around Bob and not have a good time...

I know he is with my Jim in heaven both waiting for "Sweet Pea" and the "Black Widow" (me).

My dear friend Shirley, I feel for you and I know it is a sad time for you. You will remember fun times and cry and fun times when you will laugh. He loved you so much and he knew how much you loved him. Time and trust in God will help with your loss. Memories will keep you going... God just took another wonderful man home....

May god be with you each step of the way and know someday we will join those two wonderful men again.

I love you my dear friend.

Story shared: A Real Friend

It is difficult for me to think about who I was just over the decades ago as the son of two PhD college proffessors and just out of SMU I found myself in the West Dallas Yard. I was working with Bob V on a daily basis, and it didn't take long for us to become fast friends. I learned how amazingly smart he was quickly recognized his problem solving capacity to be greater than that of those PhD's that raised me. He and Shirley accepted me for who I was, and it was if I had become a part of their family ... and then I did. I met and married Debbie and now Bob and Shirley were in-laws. We had married when we were both just out of bad marriages and did it too quickly, and when it didn't work out they were still ther for both of us. Years later Debbie and I were still good friends thanks to the kind of people that Bob and Shirley are. I cannot say thanks enough to them for they way they accepted and encouraged me. Our paths took us in different directions, but the importance of Bob's place in my life, in my heaert, could never be altered. I know that on the other side, when he meets his maker, he will hear "Well done my good and faithful servant".

We are sad for the passing of Bob, but our loss is heaven's gain. My childhood memories with him in our family are of a hard worker who also understood the importance of enjoying life. Our weekends were celebrations, whether we had a backyard barbeque, an outing at the lake or having fun on holidays. His gentle, caring spirit and joyful heart live on, and we are glad his suffering has ended.

Uncle Bob was the sweetest man and had a gentle spirit. He will be miss by many! He always had a big smile and loving eyes when we came to see them.
